Premier Academy - Parents

Premier Academy recognizes and targets throughout the year the importance of fathers and significant other males in lives of our children. The Minnie Howell Child Development Center celebrated the annual Pre-K book distribution "A Million Starts with Me" by John Archambault to Pre-K children. Fathers and father figures were invited to "Breakfast with Distinguished Men of Premier Academy". Fathers joined their Pre-K child for breakfast and the book was read to the children by four fathers. (Note: Each year, the Governor of the State of Georgia selects a book to be distributed to each Pre-K child. This year's book is titled "A Million Starts with Me" by John Archambault. A Million Starts with Me was specifically written to commemorate Georgia's Pre-K Program serving one million four year olds since its inception in 1993).

Premier Academy, Inc. welcomes the newest member of the Premier family – Ms. Kantrice Rose who is the new Resource Development Director.  In this position, her major responsibilities will include developing and implementing a fund development strategy in partnership with the Board of Directors and Executive Director.

BCDI-Atlanta Affiliate Reception for Commissioner Cagle
Minnie Howell Child Development Center had the pleasure of hosting a reception for the newly appointed Commissioner for Bright from the Start on March 8, 2011.  This Reception was sponsored by Black Child Development Institute (BCDI)-Atlanta Affiliate.  Child Care Providers, Head Start Grantee, Parents, Childcare Associations, Premier Academy Board Members and Legislators were present at this reception.  All had an opportunity to meet and talk personally with Commissioner Cagle.

Parent Café
Premier Academy hosted the Parent Café Workshop that was sponsored by BCDI-Atlanta Affiliate and Georgia Association for Young Children (GAYC) Women’s Voices for Child Care Project.  Parents from Premier and other childcare centers attended this event.  The workshop was developed to share information on advocating for children to State legislators.  Program participants included staff from the Department of Children Services and other state agencies as well as Federal Lobbyist. Giving Back to the Community
As part of our commitment to serve the community, Minnie Howell’s Administrative Team and staff volunteered to help Fountain of Faith Missionary Baptist Church’s (Riverdale, GA) Feed the Homeless Ministry on March 5.  The staff prepared chili and provided on-site support by packaging the food to be delivered to the Nursing Home and to the streets of Cleveland Avenue.

Premier Academy staff and parents are participating in the United Way Shoe Box Project.  Shoes boxes containing new unopened toiletry items will be donated to the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta who will distribute to homeless women and children.
