MLK Historical SiteEarly Care and Education

Premier Academy, Inc. serves children six weeks of age to 4 (Pre-K) and an afterschool program serving children age 5 to 12.  Each child is treated as a talented and unique individual.  Using a research based curriculum and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) quality standards; children are involved in activities that promote school readiness (kindergarten) by developing their social and cognitive abilities.  The curriculum, NAEYC quality standards and periodic assessments provide teachers with an instructional roadmap that is designed for each child to foster learning at his/her own pace through listening, seeing, hearing, touching and play.  In addition to the High Reach Curriculum, Premier Academy, Inc. provides a Pre-K program that follows the Georgia’s Pre-K Content Standards.

According to research, infant/toddler development occurs more rapidly during the first 24 – 36 months of development. During this period, an infant experiences rapid brain development, physical growth, as well as dramatic growth in motor skills, cognitive and language skills, and social skills. This is a very exciting time for babies, as they are experiencing their world for the first time. Premier Academy recognizes that children develop at their own pace. In addition to daily observations, Premier Academy uses a research based assessment tool that guides when and what milestones to expect during the infant/toddler's stages of development.

Infants (6 weeks to 12 months)
Premier Academy places emphasis on nurturing. Babies are introduced to healthy social and emotional interactions, language acquisition, body awareness and motor control. Teachers are involved with children in routines that include, but not limited to morning greetings, hand washing, diapering, feedings, sleeping, cuddle time, tummy time and other stimulating activities that maximize the child's language, cognitive, physical and emotional development. Music, reading and sensory activities (i.e., water play) are also a major part of the infant's day. All activities are introduced and reinforced based on the child's individual developmental progress.

WritingToddlers/Preschool (12 months – 36 months)
Toddlers are beginning to become more independent each day. Learning experiences are designed to promote the toddler's sense of independence, enhance social skills and to build confidence in problem solving and self help skills which are needed as the foundation for pre-kindergarten and beyond. Toddlers and preschoolers are involved in small and large group activities, individual classroom activities and outdoor play allowing them to discover who they are, socialize, learn to express their feelings, and begin to become independent, to feel comfortable and loved. Their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development is reinforced.

Georgia Pre-K Program
The Pre-K Program is funded and governed by Bright from the Start Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.  This is a free program serving children who have turned 4 years of by September 1 in private child care centers and public schools statewide.  Children transition from Premier Academy, Inc. to kindergarten with a proven age-appropriate and emerging age-appropriate literacy, math and social skills.

KarateSummer Program:
The Center operates a summer camp program for school aged children, 5 to 12 year olds.  This exciting program is 10 weeks beginning the last week of May through the first week of August (depending on the Atlanta Public School calendar).   Children are engaged in activities such as Art Enrichment (art, music/piano and dance), Physical Fitness (karate, swimming), Science and Technology (science experiments and computer training), Leadership and Character Building (community service projects) and Academic Preparation (creative writing, reading, math and CRCT preparation).   Children also enjoy field trips to local museums, the Georgia Aquarium, Fernbank Science Center, and other culturally relevant venues.
