Comprehensive Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum
Our research based curriculum is based on the philosophy that young children learn best through play. The curriculum incorporates at its foundation experiences that allow learning through guided play and active discovery. We focus on oral language and literacy development with the ultimate goal that each child will be ready for school (kindergarten).
The learning environment is primarily based on a research based curriculum. Each classroom is arranged in learning centers that offer choices encouraging children to explore the world around them while primary objectives are introduced through classroom facilitation. Language development (i.e., letter shapes and sounds, pre-reading, sight words), mathematical reasoning (i.e., number recognition, counting, sorting) and scientific thought (i.e., making comparisons, cause and effect) are emphasized in each learning center. Typical learning centers include language/library, blocks and manipulatives, science, dramatic play, art and outdoor learning.
A parent information guide and the family letters are used to help parents reinforce learning concepts. Additionally, the developmental skills checklist keeps parents abreast of their child's progress. Teachers maintain portfolios on each child. These portfolios include a sampling of a child's work that has been collected at different times.
